Hey V family, we are loving the images we captured last week with you! Can’t wait to surprise Dad V on Father’s Day! We’ll give you a jingle when your super secret gallery is ready to go!
Jean and I have known Tracey Hiner of TraceyClean for a long time (Tracey and I go back to the IU days in 19-ott-mumble mumble mumble….). I’m sooooo excited she’s offering her homemade, completely natural cleaning products for those of us who want to clean without caustic chemicals. Check out her website; besides making her products available, it’s full of useful information to change and improve your own personal environment. That’s what I call realistic green, friends.
Don’t forget today is EARTH DAY, there are lots of fun activities to participate in, even from home. Check out local events here in Indy where we observe Earth day on the last Saturday in April.
I don’t think I’ve taken the time to appreciate what it is to be in a business partnership. For one, we’ve been much more productive as a team than me going solo. That’s definitely a benefit, because with our business house in order, we can provide the best custom photography experience with no distractions, with great creativity and fun. I can definitely attest, at least on my end, that my workload is easier because I’m part of a team.
Are there different approaches? You bet. I (Nelly) think of myself as a little bit country–details gal, the tactical geek. Jean teases that I ramble about apertures, shutters, ISOs, colors, pie charts, yada yada…. I admit, I do geek out like that. Jean’s a little bit rock and roll– our strategy gal. She conjures up big ideas, big execution, big thinking. And she is amazing at what she can put together with a little bit of time and fresh air.
Yep, we’re a little bit country, a little bit rock and roll.
Now that the weekend is approaching and many folks are landing home from spring break, it’s time to share your snaps!
If you read our April newsletter, we talked about the rule of thirds (we also linked the article here) and challenged our readers to practice the rule of thirds and share their work. Those creative snappers who share their work will be entered into our drawing to win a 4×10 storyboard like this one!
If you’re up to it, leave a comment. Operators are standing by!
*the fine print: must be able to schedule a session and redeem $50 storyboard credit by end of 2008. Tests have shown absolutely no adverse side effects from composing a shot with the rule of thirds. Frequent use of the rule of thirds leads to habitual creative surges. Consult with your camera often.
Will you be in St. Louis during this time frame? Highly recommend attending this exhibit entwined: a photo exhibit to be featured at Belas Artes Gallery and Multicultural Center.
Details from the site:
Per scientific fact: Any two random humans on earth will vary in their genetic material by 1/1000th of 1 percent. So much hatred is spewing forth out of our differences when we could be focusing on our 99.99 percent of similarities.
We all have the same basic human needs and desires; the greatest of which is the need to feel significant. We have a responsibility as parents to teach our children to respect each others’ differences but more importantly, to cherish what makes us the same.
Entwined, a conceptual photo essay by St. Louis Photographer Laura Siebert, examines the seemingly innate desire to connect with others, as demonstrated by children. She invites you to bring the whole family to this exhibit. Her hope is that viewing the images will open a family dialogue about what makes us the same and how we can embrace this.
Check it out! If you can’t make it to St. Louis, the gallery will premiere online after May 24, 2008.
Jean and I went to our photo club for a night of shooting and camaraderie last week. I’m supposed to be BEHIND the camera, but for some reason, I ended up in front. Notice the deer-in-the-headlights look? Nice capture, Jean…. You’ll get yours soon.
With a nod and apology to Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson, the twisted message in the title is true. I’ve spent my short (well, medium length…) life sending telepathic messages with what I really want. You know what? It doesn’t work. So now, I’m trying my best to just ask.
Moms, if you want your family together for a family picture, don’t wait for them to feel the together-vibe. Knock them over the head with it. We’re happy to accomodate those without sixth senses….
And on an unrelated note, we’re getting ready to shoot this little guy’s one year session. Can’t wait to see you, baby L!
